Are the Nets for Real?

The New Jersey Nets have put a lot of faith in their Center Brook Lopez and Point Guard Devin Harris. Well first off, they traded away the face of their franchise a few years back, Jason Kidd, for Harris and a couple of other prospects. The team let Richard Jefferson slip to the Milwaukee Bucks, and even a few years before that let Kenyon Martin, another great player leave. Oh, not to mention they just got rid of their other scoring machine, Vince "Vinsanity" Carter. Four, five years ago the Nets were playing for the Eastern conference finals. What is bad managing, bad coaching or both that have impeded the Nets from doing well? The Nets have been terrible since, shipping great player after great player away. The Nets don't even have eccentric players like "The Birdman" in Denver to sell tickets. What are they expecting to do to sell tickets? Has there been an implicit agreement that the Nets will do whatever they can do make more and more mistakes? Ok, maybe i'm being too harsh. I mean, just look in baseball at the Tampa Bay Rays last year. They did similar actions, shipping off all their big name, and made the World Series. But that really seems like an inordinate case, and will not happen again. The Nets need to return to the halcyon days of being exciting and competing with the great teams in the league. Why are they being so chary of going after a big star? They need a new nuance; a new style. So the Nets this year have the raw young talent of Devin Harris, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Yi, and Brook Lopez. Four starters under the age of 25. Hard to be successful. But I suppose a paroxysm doesn't happen overnight, and will take a few years. I hope they're worth the wait.

What's with all the hate on Sanchez?

Mark Sanchez, the fourth overall pick by the New York Jets in this past year's draft has received an awful lot of criticism as of late. Sanchez started off 3-0 and was viewed as an olympian. (Get it? he played for the USC Trojans? nevermind...) The Jets have lost three straight since, Sanchez throwing just 2 TD's and 10 INT's in those three games. Now, some would call him a culpable man, making a first round pick a pariah in his rookie year. Everyone needs to calm down. Of course there are all the New York Giant fans who are laughing and saying how bad Mark Sanchez is. Do they not remember Eli Manning going 1-6 as a rookie? Sanchez has already far exceeded Eli as a rookie, and shows great promise. Maybe i'm just trying to have some chauvinism, but I believe in Sanchez, and think he can lead the Jets to great places. He can't be maudlin at all, or he will get nothing accomplished. He just has to forget about the past and concentrate on the next opponent. I mean, out of the 10 interceptions, 4 of them were tips, and two of them were hail mary's at the end of the game or half. Im sure Sanchez will step back up to the level he played at for the first three weeks and imbue faith back into the Jets' fans.

Can Anyone Beat the Yankees?

C.C. Sabathia of the New York Yankees has been nothing short of spectacular. Many had qualms that the 6'7'' 290 pounder could not live up to his 7 year, $161 contract, but his performance and happy demeanor have brought not only talent, but life to the team. C.C. and his new teammate, A.J. Burnett, were two of the biggest pitchers to be signed this offseason. A.J., known for pieing teammates in the face after every Yankee walk-off, has brought a new gregarious style that the Yankees have been lacking for the past several seasons. The Yankees have been the most eminent team of any sports, winning an unprecidented twenty-six championships. They are always known to have omnipotent General Managers who have hundreds and hundreds of millions to sign any player to make the team a contender. This is why the team is so good every year. This legendary team comes with a lot of pressure, to make it and be the favorites to win the World Series every year. It seems, atleast so far, that they will do so this year.
